OC Literacy – Pathways to Learning offers free literacy tutoring for adults to build reading, writing, math, and language skills. Whether you’re just getting started or working toward a high school equivalency or professional goal, we offer programs that meet you where you are.
Instruction and materials are free, and students work one-to-one with a trained tutor. All instruction takes place in welcoming public spaces such as local libraries or community centers.
ABE Reading, Math, and Language Program

Adult Basic Education (ABE) offers one-to-one tutoring for adults who want to strengthen everyday reading, writing, math, or language skills. This may include help with forms, workplace reading, basic math, or building confidence with written English.
Learning is individualized and paced to each student’s goals. Tutors focus on instructional skills that support daily life, work, and continued learning.
GED/HiSET

This program supports adults preparing for a high school equivalency exam, such as the HiSET or GED. Students build skills in reading, writing, math, and test-taking strategies at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.
As they prepare, students gain confidence in themselves as learners, strengthening not only academic skills but also the belief that they can succeed in their next steps. Instruction is free and takes place one-to-one with a tutor
Family Literacy

Family literacy classes support parents and caregivers with young children under age 5. While parents work on strengthening their English language skills, children participate in activities that build early literacy and learning skills to prepare them for pre-K and kindergarten.
Classes focus on improving English language skills for adults and creating opportunities for families to practice reading, talking, and learning together at home.
Enrollment details will be shared closer to the start of the program.
Digital Literacy

This program helps adults build confidence using computers and technology in everyday life. Students can learn computer basics, how to use the internet, email, and how to stay safe online.
Learning may take place in a small group or with instructor-led support, depending on the class. Instruction is free and designed to meet learners where they are, helping build practical skills that support work, communication, and daily tasks.
Opportunities to earn a free laptop may be offered in the future as part of digital literacy classes.
